Abstract

This study analyse the intergenerational transmission of poverty in Korea using the first and eighteenth wave of Korean Labor & Income Panel Study. To analyse these, I use poverty transition tables across generation, logit regression and path analysis. As results, I have discovered that there is an intergenerational transmission of poverty in Korea. Poverty rates in adulthood are higher for those who were poor in their growth period than those who were not. And I found that parents¡¯ poverty might increase children¡¯s poverty in adulthood through the mediating effects of educational level. In conclusion, I suggest that more affirmative actions for the poor children are needed in favor of equal opportunities for education.
